A Missouri Creek, Very Young Frank & Jessee Played Here

While cruising around Missouri I saw a large tree with a strange shape and a farming implement nestled in its branches. Made a quick U-turn to get a closer look at this tree. This place spoke of years gone by as there were many 1800's artifacts scattered beyond the fence of the subterranean house.

There was a kindly gentleman who met me in the driveway. I asked him about the tree and its age, he said it has always been there and is very old. He also gave some history of the property. He opened up the locked gates and told me to go on yonder to look around and take pictures. He was proud to tell me the James boys played in this creek when they were very young boys. He also shared they are not what their legend makes them out to be....."they would just as soon shoot you as to talk to you".

Photos of the tree and creek as well as the field they played at. You can let your imagination spin and picture the James boys at play in this area.

Enjoy

Re: A Missouri Creek, Very Young Frank & Jessee Played Here

I haven't taken up metal detecting, but my brother gave me a kids MD for beginners. Found a quarter in my yard. Beginners luck!

My passion is searching the woods for Indian Bent Trees....please no naysayer remarks. I love finding these bent trees and any other strange looking tree.

My love for TT's (trail trees) has introduced me to a whole new world. This hobby of mine is a dream come true. I always loved a good adventure story.

Thanks

Awesome find! I went detecting around an old foundation last weekend and my father-in-law claims that the girl or woman who lived there was associated with Jesse James. I'm going to look into it this week when we get together to find out more. We live a coulple miles from the Missouri border. Can you share where these were taken? I'd like to know how close he was to the homestead that I search.

Thanks BTR, I'm only a couple hours away from that place. Makes me think my father-in-law could be onto something.

Yes, he had a great time sharing, and I had a wonderful time listening and learning. I am sure he has more tales to tell.

Glad you enjoyed the post.

Very cool pictures. I remember a story some time back that a metal detectorist found an item from a flooded cree in Missouri that was engraved and belonged to Cole Younger. I think that it was a spur but I might be mistaken....Steve

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure that if the tree could talk, the stories that it would tell. That ground and river may yield some nice history.
