A Question about PayPal Friends/Gift versus the 3%

Commercial use of PayPal required the PP fee or 3%. With that fee you have PayPal protection.

Am I paranoid (well, yes) in thinking that if we use Friends & Family, or gift - we do NOT have that protection?
