Greetings friends.
Yesterday I headed back to the woods that I had pounded to death last year.
The mosquitoes were biting me through my shirt and I was wacking a lot of new growth.
What a pain. Field hunting has spoiled me.
I spent 3 hours and only found a 1919 wheatie.
This morning I decide to head to the next county and check on some cites I hunted last year.
I was hoping to find a field that had not been planted. I got lucky.
The corn field is where a church is shown on a 1890 platt map.
My second target was the seated dime and an hour later found the IH just under the surface.
The dime is well worn but it is a thrill to find one that old.
Thanks for looking and best luck to all. Merf

Great finds, Merf. Love the seated dime, despite it's wear. Sweet pics as usual.

Where do you get the old platt books from? Do you buy them or are you using a library edition?

Thanks Anne-----I make copies of the platt book pages at the local library.
They have a copy machine that works OK

I love old church sites that are now in Corn fields. Most guys won't do the research and are always complaining that
there aren't any good places left to hunt. Sorry about there luck. They are usually the ones who always ask, Where did
you find that and that's when I tell them, In The Ground. A little time spent researching a spot is time well spent as you know.

Great finds, I would be back there next fall after the beans are off and really hit that site.

HH, Ringfinder

P.S.
I have platt maps from 5 counties and all the townships from each of those. I copied all of them many years ago.
All of the maps for here in Ohio are from the late 1800's. What a good soruce these maps are!!!
