I have an older park just down the street from my house that I have done well in the last couple of years. Finds are getting tougher but it is pretty trashy. I have been marking off areas and going nice and slow. This has lead to five silver, a 1914 buffalo, and a 1883 (with cents) Liberty nickel in the last three weeks. Yesterday, I took my daughter there to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. I didn't figure I'd get to detect much because I needed to keep an eye on her (she's almost 3). Lucky for me, she is pretty fascinated and letting her keep coins keeps her interested! In an open area where I've been numerous times before, I wiggled in a nice high tone. About seven inches down and out pops a 1943 Washington. I definitely didn't expect that!

Something had me thinking that the mint mark was on the top of the reverse side of the coin. A 1943 quarter is nothing special so I washed it with baking soda to clean it up. Then I noticed a "S" mint mark. Since most times these are typically the shorter production coins, I looked it up and noticed there is a DDO version. Then I look closer at my coin and realize it appears to be a DDO! Ahhhh!

Welcome to the forum. Can't beat a day in the park with your kid...and some loot!
Best of both worlds.
