The landowner said it was OK to hunt this field after the crops were up so I headed back to rehunt the spot where I had found a couple of LCs and CW buttons on earlier hunts.
The soil had been tilled a little and most of the old cornstalks eliminated so it was easy hunting. I just hunted between the rows being careful not to damage any corn.
I spent the last two afternoons there and it payed off. The LC is in about the best shape of any I have found. It cleaned up nice with just a toothbrush and Ultrabrite.
No backmark left on the infantry button.
The large brass buckle next to the heart harness buckle cover is a mystery.
No marks of any kind on it. It looks old but not sure how old.
Thanks for looking and best luck to all. Merf

Excellent buttons, Merf--and the LC is Gorgeous! I like the heart harness buckle shield, and I really like the bigger buckle. It looks almost like a colonial "bat wing buckle" but I know your site isn't that old. Perhaps someone will be able to give an ID for it--it's quite striking.

Looks like there are a few toe taps in the mix as well.

I always enjoy your threads, Merf--the finds are always quite Fine, and the photos are even better.

Regards,

Buckles

Thanks Buckles-----I kind of thought the buckle looked colonial too.

I found it not far from where I found the 1812 artillary button.
Slim chance that it is. Hope someone can ID it.
Regards, Merf

Thanks MM, Mike, and Frank.

Frank----The site is where a farmstead was located North of Sycamore in the early 1800s.

That LC and those buttons are wonderful!

The first question I ask myself when I see that spectacular
panoramic view of your site is: "Where do you start?" :-\ ??? :)

Great finds!

Thanks Watercolor-----The trick is to find from the old maps about where the old farmsteads where.
Then look for remnants in the field.
