All I Could See was "GOLD 999.9" on the 1" x 3" Gold Bar in My Scoop

It had been a long day in the water and I was on the last leg of an 8-hr surf hunt on the west coast of Florida. I was moving along with my CTX 3030 and 17" coil in about 3 1/2 ft of water and got a strong and loud hit. On my first scoop, I looked inside and all I could see was " GOLD 999.9 " on this gold bar that looked about 1" and 3" at the bottom of my scoop.

I could feel my pupils dilate and I stopped breathing. As I grabbed the bar it was heavy, but then I noticed the line across the top...dang.

Gold Lighter 041218.jpg

Sure felt good while it lasted; turns-out, the bar is a lighter. And I thought that I had seen and recovered everything - But you never know and that's the beauty of metal detecting. Happy Hunting.

Nope, scratches reveal a white metal underneath...a guy can hope.

Still a very cool find. Does it still work?

Worked on it and now there is a spark when depressed but no fluid/gas in lighter. Will pursue.
