It is a US Army collar-insignia disc. The crossed-rifles emblem signified the Infantry branch of army service.

The fact that the crossed-rifles emblem on yours is "applied" to the disc's front (instead of being cast or stamped into the disc) means your collar-disc dates from 1937 through the World War 2 years.

Apparently the screw-disc which held it onto the uniform's cloth collar got lost, so your disc's owner substituted a "Ballou clutch" (which was first produced in 1942) for attaching it to the cloth. Dating Metallic Insignia: Collar Disks

LOL, Bman. :) It's probably just because I'm "housebound" in winter weather with nothing more urgent on my to-do list than answering What-Is-It forum questions. That situation will change, eventually.

Also, I know I mustn't allow my mind to stagnate. Figuring out the various riddles in the What-Is-It forum helps keep Alzheimer's away. That's a true medical fact.

Hey Cannonball, I'm also "housebound" from the cold, but "she" accuses me of being afflicted with "half-timers", I can still remember "half" the time. :laughing7:

Sounds like the prescription for what ails you is to spend more time at unraveling the mysteries in the What-Is-It? forum. :) It keeps the little grey cells exercized.*
