Aluminum is way lighter, but will likely wear out sooner. Mine is stainless steel. Heavy, but will last forever.

just because someone says stainless steel, decide for yourself, your body strength, that extra weight, will wear you out, different company's make great scoops, and different lengths, always remember, you get what you pay for,so if you buy a cheap product, you can expect to replace it,where will you use the scoop,in a calm surf,or during a rough surf,Think about it.Ronald99

I had a nice light aluminum scoop. Broke it twice. Last July 4th, I bought a heavy Stainless scoop. July 5th I found and retreived 2 gold rings in the surf, that I cuold not have retreived with the lite scoop. What do you think I hunt with now ? HH Gayle
