I got back out to the beach where i found the cannonball for another shot. No cannonballs this time but time really wasn't on my side. Tide was almost full in and there was a rain storm bearing down on us so I only had an hour. Finds were limited but I did find a nice assortment of lead. A couple musket balls, an Enfield, a Snyder and a couple unknowns. I always consider it a worthwhile hunt when I get to add to my musket ball box!

I was a little disappointed that I didn't come out with another cannonball but kind of happy as well. I'm glad that the beach is not littered with them as that would take away the joy of finding them. I did dig out the largest mortar fragment yet from about 18 inches. I'm going back tomorrow to try my luck again!

What's up with the "modern" bullets? I noticed some in your last post too. Was there more than one battle at this place?

Yep...there were multiple engagements here as well as being close to a fort which was active until the late Victorian...that would account for the "modern" lead.

Nice set of slugs
The variety of things that were made from lead alloys is amazing,
I found a similar to your 'ring item' stamped 'dennison', it was a poker for clearing adhesive tubes.
