This has been the year of the button for me. I have only been out a few times due to the winter weather, but each time I managed some nice buttons. I found another 5 on my last outing, bringing my total for the year to 24. Although none were military this time, there are some nice examples of early 1800's buttons.

My favorites are the "BEST" backmark with an eagle, which is early 1800's, and the tiny copper TREBLE GILT with a crown backmark on the star button, which may be a bit older. The others were common buttons including another Tombac, my second for the year.

Thanks for looking!

You're sure racking up on some really nice buttons Neil. If only a few hunts during the winter :( , it still looks like they're paying off for you. Wishing you an early spring

Great patina. I'm sure there some that would have cleaned that one.

There was some minimal cleaning done on it. There was a thick crust covering the button. as soon as the patina came through I stopped.

I have no idea who manufactured the button. The crown was a commonly used stamp on British buttons. TREBLE GILT is a generic backmark as well.

Thanks Neil,
I don't find many copper buttons, & they both have the Crown.
Maybe same maker.
Best Digs to You!
