Another Cud error on a bicentennial half - this is a new one for me!

I been through just under 500,000 halves and this is the first one of these I have found! I got about 13 other cud errors on the 1976 half dollars mostly at the 2 o'clock or 3 o'clock position. This one is a pretty good example at the 11 o'clock postion.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but could that be a foldover metal error instead of a cud?

That's called a "retained" cud. Part of the die is in the process of breaking off, but it held in place long enough to strike the design, instead of the normal blob of metal we see after it breaks off. The piece probably broke off soon after this coin was struck. Nice find!
