Spent 3 hours in the rain which never bothers me, but the sticky clay reminded me why I don't like wearing high heels.

We think we have mapped the limit of the Roman Site, but will continue until we reach the hedge.

10 Roman Bronzes Coins
1790s Halfpenny Token
Nice 18th C Pewter Button with rose
2 Tudor Book Clasps
Medieval Strapend
Nice Medieval Buckle with pin
18th C Silver Clog Clasp (only my 2 or 3rd silver type)
Small bit of a Roman childs Bracelet
Roman Locking Pin Head (part of a lock mechanism) - one of the best preserved I've found, these turn up on most of our good Roman Sites.

Cru'dad got the Freak Find - 3rd-6th Century BC Brooch, so a circa 2400 year old Brooch :o Only our second from this hard to find period :icon_thumright:

Crusader, it is clear that you, like me can not detect with the rain .... but the rain stops and return have been very successful .

I also try to simplify the names of objects .. but we have to start calling the Broochs before the sixth century AD C. with the name of the fibula, the problem is that outside of Europe are very few people know what a fibula.

The fibula = Until the sixth century after Christ.
Brooch = Back to the sixth century after Christ.

Banana = Tropical fruit..... some people use for pleasure. :D
Greetings!

I used to call them Fibula's & then got asked what they were, even Brooches are really 'Pins' :P Those that know like you, know.... so no probs :icon_thumright:

I wait for your postings every week. My kids love checking this stuff out and always ask me why I never metal detected when I was stationed in Europe. I know...my loss. I love digging the Civil War stuff and occasionally I dig some late 1700's or early 1800's items. I can only imagine the thrill of finding stuff that goes back thousands of years.

I shall sort it out and post forthwith...or fifthwith if I can't find it straight away.
I went out on that rough ploughed field today, even after all the rain last night. I kept hearing your voice saying " rain doesn't stop me and Cru'dad". So, on with my gumboots and waterproofs and of to a new metal detecting adventure. Well needless to say about 20 yards into the field I sank down to the top of my gumboots and was well and truly stuck. Did I mention the field was very rough ploughed?. Then imagine my relief, after about 10 minutes, to see the village bobby driving down the farm track in his superbly kitted out 4X4. Well another 5 minutes went past and I really was getting worried that he might hyperventilate if he didn't stop laughing soon. This was beginning to annoy me and I think that it gave me the extra energy to just say "sod it" and walk back to the car in my socks along with my meager finds. Needless to say I think I will let the field drain off a little bit before I go back.

Very funny, reminds me of the time Shaun7 jumped into a ditch instead of over it, I laughed a little too much :icon_thumright:

Do you remember the willow tree where you left the field?. Well last year as I was leaving in the same spot and slipped going down the ditch, stood up from the semi crouched position that I had taken to get under a big low branch and knocked myself out. I woke up about 20 mins later in mud :laughing9:. It hurt for days.

Great finds again :icon_thumleft: More proof that we need a "Professional" division so I don't feel so ridiculous posting old nails and partial fragments of potential relics :D

Firstly wecome to Tnet :hello:

It doesn't actually have a hole (just looks like it from that angle), just a depression. Its a Roman bronze locking termial piece (part of a Roman Lock).

I'm guess yours isn't Roman  & maybe a drawer knob? If you put a picture in the What Is It section someone will ID it for you :icon_thumright:

Is the pewter button a rose or tudor rose? ...and if it's a tudor rose is it backmarked "Bond"? Even if not, it's still likely a Navy button.

It crossed my mind, but I've never had a positive ID on similar ones. So could be Navy as some say or :dontknow:

(no backmark)

The tombac ones are unlikely, pewter I believe is a good chance as most I have seen are a pretty good match with my book.
