I used to ride. I started off with a honda cb350, then moved up to yamaha vision 550, then a ninja 600r. After my kids were born I gave up bikes, but when they're all growed up I'll probably get a touring back. A manual transmission means you have to manualy shift gears. Usualy the clutch is on the handlebar, you push in the clutch, then shift gears, (the gear shifter is usualy a small pedal or bar down by your foot.) then release the clutch.
I used to ride all the time. If I didn't have anywhere to go I'd just get up and go anywhere!

Maybe you could check out the range of trail/semi-trail bikes, rather than buying a toy.
