Yeah I was just wondering if you all are noticing a trend with peoples finds lately. I could be imagining it but I think either more people are posting or people are actually finding a bit more in their boxes as of late. I know I have seen a bit more than average and it seems that there has been less reports of skunks lately. Could it be people are releasing their silver back into the wild? Just like the stock market some look at markets and prices and decide that they want out and turn in what they have, deciding that silver is not worth it. Others may inherit silver from a relative and look at current silver prices and decide it is not worth the trouble to try and sell it all. It may seem far fetched but it has got to be happening on some scale. Just one theory. What do you all think?

Not me either!!!
As of Sat. 23 for 23 skunk boxes of halves for my first three weeks of ordering boxes. Good thing I am finding other notable finds like two V-nickels.

I believe that due to the economy more people are searching for any money they have at home including coins that they cash in at the bank. Unfortunately, more CRHers are being born every day in my area, thus finds are progressively getting worse each day.

I do find some every now and then, but skunk boxes and boxes with only 1 or 2-40%s are the rule now.

I'm new at this game but I've put many miles on in nearly three weeks of searching.

Big banks downtown cities 0
inner city some ok
wealthy towns 0
blue collar towns ok
blue collar towns with a large elderly or foreign population ok
rural 0 only because I get lost and can't find the banks.

As the economy worsens people will be turning in more change.

I've also noticed longer lines at the coinstars.

I'm certainly no expert but I have a hunch that especially in the next several months there will be some spectacular finds, and of course there will always be skunks.

I'm also thinking that there will be some good quarter and dime finds as well.

I think it does depend on your area but although some are not seeing an increase if you look at the amount of silver being displayed on the forum it has increased a bit. I am curious to see what others say.

I hunted 2 boxes of String rolls after a "string" of skunks back in May. I did good.

I think that due to the economy more coins are entering the flow.

Either that or my 1 box this week of 27 keepers was a fluke. AMC

I definitely think your theory has some accuracy to it. As the economy is tanking and people are hard-pressed for money, they will cash in all they coins they can get their hands on in order to get money to pay the bills, car payments, etc. Since more people are turning their coins in it only makes sense that more of the coins us CRH'ers look for are released into circulation.

Had some good boxes about a month ago but it's cooled off since. Still pulling the occasional walker or bennie though and most boxes produce at least one silver.

I found my fifth silver rosie for this week today at work when a customer handed it to me in change. I have not found any silver dimes searching rolls yet but I plan to focus on dimes this week and see how I do.

Yes, I have noticed that over the last 20 years, the frequency of silver finds have continued to decrease, while the length of skunks have continued to increase.

You guys are right though, the economy tanking means people are getting more desparate... but even in good times, people and businesses return more coins to the bank during the holidays...

Don't be mislead. That natural tendency, is to post your finds........and not your skunks. While some skunks are posted, I would submit that they represent a small amount of the actual skunks our forum members encounter. IMHO

This is interesting. Some say they see a differance and some are not. Some even sound a bit bitter about all the skunks which is understandable. I am basing my opinion on my own finds as well as the noticeable increase of substantial finds on the forum from a variety of individuals over the past few months. But I do believe it aslo depends on where you are located.

I have noticed an increase in my finds.
They are not spectacular but they are much better I have had mini runs spanning multiple boxes as of late with up to 30 or more keepers in them with a few skunks in between.

I do 10 Brinks boxes a week and 2 fed boxes ea. week as a measurement to see if there are any trends.

It seemed for a while that the fed boxes were always skunks with an occasional keeper and in the last 2 months I have had a 36 keeper box and a 17 keeper box from my fed supply.

My best finds were and are always Brinks. I would go on a 1 week skunk every now and than but for the better part of this year I was averaging maybe just 20 keepers a week.
In the last last couple of months I have had a 100 and 200 keeper week, and seems my average is up to about 30 to 60 keepers per week during the last month or two

Makes me want to order more boxes but I don't have the time. :(

i would say finds are up slightly. it is directly tied to the silver price. when the price is lower fewer people care. makes it less worthwhile to invest time and effort. add in the stressed economy feature.which i agree is adding more coins.add in the dumbing of america where many drug addicts, heavy drinkers, the mentally impaired portion of the elderly, and just plain ditzy or unaware folks [usually younger no offense intended] seem to be increasing as an overall proportion of the poulation.adds silver. but all this is offset by increasing numbers of hunters .brought about by this site. the BIG IF here is if the economy really tanks. some one said. i would like to order more boxes but dont have time. well if no one has jobs thousands will have plenty of time to crh. and that fact in itself would be modified that fewer folk would have the 2 to 5 k needed to cycle around in order to do decent volume at this. BIGGER IF. FEES FOR ORDERING ROLLS. banks are not doing great. SOONER OR LATER I BELEIVE THIS IS COMING :-X

I am a small time hunter with a low budget. At first I was doing well and upped my stake by ordering a box and it seamed that I was getting the same ones back that I turned in and was skunked on a whole box no even 1 keeper. Casino Coin Dump!
Picked up $200.00 worth of halves with only 1 find but it was a 1949 Ben; so that has changed my mind.
I posted about getting allot of worn down Kennedy's and the consensus was that they come from a casino. I started spending them every where I go on gas, smokes, wherever I spend money. My thinking there; is to put them back into circulation and allot of the clerks pocket there new finds; most of the young-ins have never seen them before.

Do any of you mark some of your dump coins?
Nail polish, red or black marker, paint stick, to see If you are getting recycled coins.

Have you noticed any difference with the color of the wrappers?
