I live in Beaufort and work on Hilton Head Island. The area has a ton of History and settlements date back to the late 1500's. As for Daufuskie, you will have a hard time finding anywhere to detect on the island itself. The property is all private. You may fair better by working the banks of the river at low tide from the mean low water up to the high tide mark. You can find everything from Indian Artifacts to colonial and civil war era items.

I have never personally detected the shoreline there, but I would imagine there are some nice artifacts that have washed ashore near the south end. You are very close to the Savannah River entrance and there are quite a few old wrecks between Hilton Head and Tybee Island.

I have heard of some spanish reales being found on the north end of Hilton Head Island on some of the public beaches, but never seen any personally.

Good luck and feel free to PM me.

Robert
