Had a good hunt. Got a real nice point some pitted hammer stones some broken tips etc. also got something that I don't know. It's the item with the measuring tape. It's worked into points on both ends. Any ideas? Was a great hunt

Nice finds.. I'm not sure what state your in but the object you asked about looks like the type of tie on atlatl weight found in central and northern plains states.

Looks like a worked, unfinished piece of hardstone, quite possibly exactly as gatorboy suggests.

Nice finds.

Nice artifact finds. That slate weight is amazing.

Was the atalatl commonly used in New York does anyone know? I've been researching the artifact and that seems to be exactly what it is. I have the archeology of New York book but can't find one in there. Pretty stoked about it it's a new piece in my collection.

That was used for thousands of years before the advent of the more recent bow and arrow.
Yes it was used in what we call New York.
While you have that book out look at roller pestles also.. I dont think it is one but it can't hurt to look for similar examples.
