I think you are right. I have seen some fancy boxes that had candy in them that had a metal makers name tag on the top of the box. If I remember right the one I had was early 1900's or so. usually stamped from thin brass material, so that one looks like it's in excellent shape for being in the ground!

Thanks for the replies.
It is made of thin brass and was bent by the " bad " and I straightened it.
3 1/2 in long x 7/8 h.
