Probably. 6 or 7 Years seems like a long time to me. I'm assuming you're using NiMH batteries. Actual life depends on several factors; go here for more info: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/index.htm

The true test is performance. Do they hold a charge?

Do they nee more and more frequent recharging? If so, it's time to replace them.

I've got a Ni Cad pack now going on nine years still lasting as it did when new. Always recharged to the detector manufactures instructions BUT I followed the suggestion on a battery manufactures site of gradually increasing charge time by a small degree each year. My twelve hour charge is now fifteen.
As SomeGuy says if their working fine why worry , if not replace.

I had to add my two cents since I enjoy the Excal. As SomeGuy say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," basicly. I have had my Sun Ray NIMH pak for at least five years and no proplem. I run the batteries down about once a month just to recharge them all the way. the battery site SomeGuy gives is great.
