Hoist your foresail and head on upstream for bedrock to anchor on! May the seas follow and may you find a golden harbor.

depends on what your definition of "middle of river" is. For instance at the day use area there are channels. the main channel no. but there is plenty of area about 2 ft deep that you can stand and shovel right into your sluice

It's everywhere there. Just look for chunks sticking out of the water then remove the overburden next to it. The Bear has layers of materials. The latest in last years high water was bright orange and ran up to a foot deep. Had flakes and some pickers. Below that you will find peanut butter or different colors of brown, vegitative matter, black stained, blue granite color and different kinds of muck and sticky muck. Sampling each layer with a pan is best or just set up a sluice and hope for the best. If your panning skills are not up to par work on those. If you can clear a full size pan in two - three minutes you will have the skill to find gold. Otherwise find bedrock and scrape out the cracks and pockets. Good Luck.
