Best way to clean lead?

I found a lead seal witch look good as it is and a possible other lead object. I think i read somewhere that it was not good to clean with water.
So lets hear how you clean your lead artifacts.

I have been cleaning my Civil War bullets and other lead objects with water and bakeing soda for several years now and have not had no problem. Some people leave the dirt on them,but I like that nice white patina on mine.
