That notch in the base is more than likely from being hit by farm equipment rather than purposely put there by whoever made it.

Very nice point though.

Yep, sure is a plow ding. Still a nice point. Congrats on finding it.

Molly :)

Even with enlargement of the photo, I can see no difference in the patina of the notch and the rest of the point. I certainly don't think it is an intentional notch but just doesn't look recent. Just my 2c worth. Regardless, very nice point.

Thanks for the opinions. Its been probably 60 years since the land was farmed although I do keep it bushhogged to keep it from reverting back to forest. Would 60+ years be enough to even the patina out if it was indeed hit by a plow?

I doubt it. I'm certainly no expert on such things but here's a pic of a Savannah River I found in a Woodland period camp that was reworked. That's a bunch of years and you can see the difference between the original and the reworked edges.

I don't believe that's a plow scar, I have found points with a "V" notch in the base that were put there by the knapper, why I don't know. Here is a triangle I dug out of a cave (it's never seen a plow before ) that has a similar notch in the base. Sorry for the poor quality, I need a better scanner :tongue3:

Because it is not centered is why we all thought "plow ding" but with an even patina, it might have been intentional :icon_scratch:
