I found this embedded in the side of a cow trail near where I have found multiple artifacts. I have also found alot of bone fragments, old and new alike, but never one that looked like this. It is definately old and it is like it was polished because it is smooth and shiny on the surface. The hole goes all the way through and seems to be perfectly hollow. Maybe I am reaching, but it seems to me that it is a bead. Any input or advise on it is greatly appreciated. Found in S.W. Iowa, which if it is a bead, it's odd that it hasn't decomposed with the rain and humidity.

It looks cut on that one end like a bone bead? Maybe someone else will have an idea?

It does look to be cut on one end, in the 4th photo. It's hard to say, in my book I would keep it and look at it under a powerful scope. Good eye for finding it.

It is hard to get a good pic of it, but you are right quito, the outside is kind of flared on one side, but the hole is symmetrical all the way through. It is probably from where the marrow rotted out. I have found quite a bit of clam shell in the same general area too so turtle would be a wise guess. Will old bones still be glossy over time or is this just a natural process in this case? Thanks for the feedback, it's interesting to say the least.
