I was able to get out for an hour this afternoon to try my field one last time before the frost really set in. The ground was frozen to about 5 inches but it was manageable. First signal was a little choppy but was good enough to dig. This is something I've been hoping to find for 7 years. It's a Spanish cob!! I think it's a 1 reale from 1674...which would make it my new oldest silver! Condition is amazing but unfortunately my camera is still not downloading to my laptop so I had to use my BlackBerry. I'm absolutely gob smacked with this find!

I was finally able to download the pics from my camera. Thanks.

Beautiful Cob! 8)

Is it a one real or a two reales?

Might one venture to query if that is a corn field find? CornCob field? ;D

CC Hunter

Hey, was it my shovel that dug it? Maybe I need a lawyer.

Yep...it was your shovel...I would not have been able to dig this with a lesser shovel...the frozen ground would have snapped a mere mortal shovel! :laughing7:

You're going to need a team of lawyers to get this shovel back! It's been my best find ever!

I knew it! Ok, I'll settle out of court for the cob.

Way to go Romeo :headbang: A cob can be a tough out for most people to get off their list. I found my one and only back in 1993 and doubt I will find another.

if I was to only get one Spanish silver a year I would sure pick that!

I'm still amazed you're getting out to dig this time of year, without a backhoe, but with the shovels we use, it's pretty close ;D

congrats on your cob, first of many I'm sure

It is amazing he is digging this time of year, but you'd also be amazed at our weather! I've never seen it as mild as it has been for mid. to late Jan., and neither has my father for that matter. We could have easily beat our Jan. 1st detecting record if we really wanted to, by at least by 2 weeks. Probably just a bit of frost to deal with. Yesterday was above freezing all day.

If it stays cold, yesterday may have been my last day for field hunting until spring. The frost was in the ground and the first four or five inches were tough digging...

Looking ahead at the forecast it's showing temps on the plus side so I may be hunting next weekend yet!

I guess I should have chanced it and came down there anyways! That's a pretty sweet find, especially for nearly February. Well at least you have 11 months to try to top that one for the best of 2012! :icon_thumright:
