Does anyone know whats the ground balance setup on this detector.

What I can find on the web is ,it will auto or manual balance.

Some detectors will Manual balance in the all metal mode or also in the discriminate mode, this detector says to do it in the all metal mode.

Best anyways to do it in all metal mode so as you know there is no junk under the coil to mess up the reading.

It is always better to ground balance in All Metal and when you switch to disc your setting are set for disc. I don't think any MD ground balance in disc mode. When in All Metal you will know the ground is free of any metal so you can ground balance well.

Thanks for that info.

Here is the info from the bounty hunter manual. Can anyone expand on this so what is semi-auto?

Your PLATINUM metal detector is designed with these things in mind.
1. Ground Minerals
All soils contain minerals. Signals from ground minerals can interfere
with the signals from metal objects you want to find. All soils differ,
and can differ greatly, in the type and amount of ground minerals
present. You therefore want to “calibrate” the detector to the specific
ground conditions where you are hunting. The detector incorporates a
semi-automated ground-balancing feature which will eliminate false
signals from most types of soils. But if you want to maximize the
detector’s target identification accuracy and depth of detection, use the
GROUND GRAB function to calibrate the detector to the ground where
you are searching. See the section on GROUND GRAB for details.

4. GROUND GRAB
All soils contain minerals. Signals from ground minerals interfere with the
signals from metal objects. All soils differ, and can differ greatly, in the
type and amount of ground minerals present. This detector incorporates
ground balancing algorithms which eliminate interference caused by the
ground minerals found in most soils.
The GROUND GRAB feature allows the user to more precisely calibrate
the detector’s internal circuitry to the specific ground you are searching.
We call this calibration process ground balancing.
We therefore recommend that you use GROUND GRAB to most accurately
calibrate the detector to the specific ground conditions where you are hunting.
It is a quick and automated process, and will instantly grab the ground reading
of any patch of ground you are standing over. This process will maximize the
detector’s target identification accuracy and depth detection capability.
The Process is as follows:
1. Find a patch of ground which is free of metal.
Use the DISCRIMINATION mode, with no targets discriminated out.
2. Enter the ALL METALS mode of operation.
3. Hold the detector with the search coil a foot or two above the ground.
4. Press-and-Hold .
The GROUND GRAB line is illuminated.
5. Lower the searchcoil down to within 2 inches of the ground.
6. After successfully ground balancing, release .
You have successfully ground balanced after a 2-digit number appears in
the middle of the screen. After 3 seconds with the same 2-digit number
displayed, you will hear a repeating high tone, indicating that ground
balancing was successful.
If the detector is not able to ground balance, “ _ _” appears, a low-pitch
warning sound alarms, and the message “Raise Coil” is illuminated. You
could be over a piece of metal. If so, find another patch of ground. The
detector will also not Ground Grab on a wet salt-water beach.

Discovery 3300
I just started using the Platinum and had been using a 3300 previously. The ground balance with the 3300 was adjusted by putting the machine in pinpoint mode with the coil lifted,in the all metal mode, ground balance knob in preset and depressing the pinpoint button. Lower the coil and listen. If you hear a sound lift the coil and adjust the ground balance knob clock wise and repeat. When you drop the coil and do not hear anything the machine is balanced. The Platinum is the same except that when you drop the coil the ground balance is adjusted for you. You do not have to repeat lifting the coil up and down, just hold it steady 2 inches above the ground. When the number indicated on the screen settles you will hear a high beeping tone and ground balance is complete. If you hear a low tone and dashes across the screen the machine did not balance and there may be some metal under the coil. Look for clear ground and repeat. I have not had any problems with the ground hear in Kentucky and the balance usually settles between 45 and 55. The process is quick and easy. I did find that it may need to be repeated about every thirty minutes or so in trashy areas. I am by no means an expert and correct me if I am wrong. Hope this helps. HH

I think I have the ground balance down as well, the videos on you tube showed a pumping, I tried that and it grabbed sometimes but now I follow the manual and have better results. I also ground balance a few times while searching just in case the soil has changed from spot to spot. HH ~JJ~.
