Did an other successful week end hunt, a proof that doing lots of PR and constantly looking for new permissions does pay off sometimes.

My first find was one of my minor bucket list's relics. I always wanted to find a solid sterling spoon but never had a chance to get one. Couldn't believe my eyes when the first one I pulled this weekend turned out to be a Georgian tea spoon from 1803 On top of it all it has a beautiful hand engraved design and owner's initials.

The spoon wasn't in a great shape due to the plow damage but with a help from a friend I have managed to straighten it without breaking the relic.

I believe I got a positive ID of the London silversmith who made it.

Than I hit a very promising new site. I barely stepped on the field when I started noticing pottery and bricks spread all over the surface. Within a few minutes the first copper showed up and within an hour I had 9 of them laying in my pouch. The best part was that all the coppers were early ones and on top of that, the wast majority was in a good or event great condition.

The best preserved one was 1838 Banque du Peuple Un Sou (Halfpenny)

An other great Halfpenny was the Spread Eagle 1814 (my favorite design)

Got a great surprise, my second Machin's Mills 1787 in a very decent shape.

George III Halfpenny 1807 (my first one of this type)
20181028_205853.jpg 20181028_205912.jpg

1790's Conder Halfpenny

Issac Brook's Halfpenny 1812
20181028_205926.jpg 20181028_205940.jpg

And a Bouquet Halfpenny Bank of Montreal 1840's
20181028_205736.jpg 20181028_205756.jpg

The heart breaker of the day was one of only two worn coins which turned out to be my first Vermont Copper. Too bad it wasn't in a great shape like the others... I can only read VERMONT on one side and see a partial profile of George III

And no hunt can be considered complete without at least some militaria. Got a nice musket ramrod guide (my first complete one). It has an intriguing inscription engraved on its side.

Thanks for the comments.

Awesome! I lived right down the road from Machin Mill site (upstate NY)

I hope you've detected in the area as well. Would be nice to find them fresh from the mint. :laughing7:

That's an amazing site you have there, I would have had trouble leaving. Congrats on some super finds and can't wait to see what else you get from there.

Thanks Jyverb64. I actually went back since and there was more stuff.

Man you cleaned house! Just a single one of those finds would make my day. Amazing site you have there.

Usually just a few would make my day, finding so many of them at the same hunt is very unusual but sure is nice.

What an amazing day you had Anton... nine coppers and a sterling silver spoon, my gosh! :occasion14:

Funny, I get excited when I find two early coppers and a button. :laughing7:

Thanks Dave. Unfortunately not all of my hunts are as successful. Most of the times few coopers and buttons are a good day for me as well.

Really happy with the results. This spot produced in all 19 early copper coins. The condition is better than average which is unusual.

The Vermont copper you have found was also struck at Machin Mills Newburgh NY. It is an RR-18, Rare. (KB 19-X). It was overstruck on a CFT. Irish Halfpence of 1781-or 1782. The "VERMON" is the wide type, which is RR-18. The close "VERMON" would be the rarer RR-35. As you can see....INDE is on the right side of Britania and the "E" ends at the base of the shield on the reverse. IT CAN ONLY BE THIS VARIETY.....100% positive on ID! Would like to send these images to Tony Carlotto. He would be interested. I'll ID the other MM shortly. Congrats! Hogge.....CORRECTION: After reading entire post, I see that Iron Patch had correctly ID'd the Vermont before me. KUDOS....IP!

The 1787 MM is a .......17-87A. Only use of this reverse die. Common.

Thanks for the great info on the coin hogge. I had no idea it was overstruck on Irish Halfpence.

Thanks Underwonder. I did hit that spot a few more times and as I have mentioned pulled 19 coppers in all, 5 being early American. Was a great site but being so small I'm pretty sure I have managed to clean it up in the few hunts I did.
