I buried one a few months ago, top side down, stuffed full of wheaties. Its about 12 inches to the bottom of the jar. Didn't bother to see if it could be detected or not.... well if someone from MFEMFE posts about a mason jar cache, you'll know if it can be detected!

PS-Doggone firewall- its MFEMFE, not MFEMFE!

PPS- Its in the town I live in, LOL!

Why dont you all bury them ...and tell me where.....and I will see if I can detect them and dig them up. That way you will know how deep they can be detected and I will have moola and we all will be happy! ;)

Well there was a good test over on Carl's forum about a silver cache. 220 quarters were buried at 2 feet in a plastic container. Nothing could detect them. I mean everything from 2 boxs to PIs were tried and all failed. So if the jar top is just a glass top and not a steel top and if it is buried at 24" nothing can detect a jar of silver coins.
