I started out up the mountain with intentions of finding a camp site from an old stage coach stop. On the way up I dug this beautiful button. I have never seen or found one like this before. Can anyone date it for me? Anyways, after hunting a few hours I headed to the place where I found 2 bullet casings mashed together. Just about there I swung my machine and the arm shaft gave out on me. Bummed out I called it a day and headed to my jeep. So as we all know I have to repair my machine and make ANOTHER trip to find that spot. Lol. Enjoy the pics.

Awesome button. Looks like a two piece and the shank still intact. I've never seen it before. I can't make out the back mark but that would be your best route to ID'ing it. That's a bummer with your detector and all.

It is considered on of the early US Army "Great Coat" buttons first ordered in 1820 and last ordered to be made in February 1839. I had the book sitting right next to me, Alphaeus Alberts book.

That is one killer button. Bummer on the shaft snapping. Get back up there when you get the tector working again.:headbang:

You know, before I realized what the 6th picture was, I was trying to figure out what kind of relic the broken machine shaft was.

anything inside the shells? I heard it was often used as a gold vial like that. Not sure if thats true or not but might be worth pulling apart.
