1- The digger says the button's backmark says "Evan" -- which has to be "D. Evans & Co" -- which went out of business in 1945.
2- Although the US Army adopted the "Great Seal" button in 1902 (not the late-19th-Century), this one has a raised rim, so it cannot be older than 1910.
3- If when the dirt is cleaned off, this "Great Seal" button lacks even a trace of "black finish" on the brass, it is 1923-to-1945.
