One of the stores I go to normally discards the boxes that either come in with jewelry in them or empty. It doesn't matter if they are junk or not. I learned this and had since requested that they save them for me. So now I can go once a week or so and pick up a small plastic bag full of ring/earring/necklace/bracelet boxes for a buck or two.

What do I do with these boxes? Two things.

1. I use them to display/ship items in for eBay sales. A lot of these boxes (at least the ones that are saved) are felt boxes in perfect condition. Many are from known brands and major retailers.

2. I get an inside scoop of what MIGHT be hitting the thrift store shelves.

What might be hitting the thrift store shelves? Normally I get a box or two that says "sterling" inside or an earring box marked 14KT. This week I got two bags of boxes and some say sterling, some cubic zirconia, amethyst, Kay Jewelers, and some Helzberg Diamonds.

Needless to say I am hitting the thrift stores hard from today on.
