Hi all
I'm new to the site. Live in Lake worth Fl. Been MD for about a year. I use a bounty hunter lonestar, my first MD. Am looking to upgrade. Thinking of a BH Platinum or Garrett 350. Problems is I like to work the beach including wet sand. I know that both are not made for this. However I like the price about $300. Do I have to pay a lot more for one that will allow me to work shallow beach water and sand?

Nice to be here

Hi BXLarry ! You can use those detectors in the wet sand, but the salt mineralization in the sand will affect your depth. With the Ace 350 , you can turn the sensitivity down to reduce the chatter caused by the salt. As you go up in price on equipment, you can find detectors with a ground balance feature - this allows you to balance the detector to the ground mineralization , allowing for greater depth. If you can go up to just under $600, the Garrett At Pro is a good mid priced choice. It's fully water proof to 9 feet and can ground balance against the high mineralization of saltwater.
