a Lot of Unanswered Questions on this one.

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) -- The box of crackers Debra Rogoff bought from the grocery store had some crackerjack in it - an envelope stuffed with $10,000.

#1.

Yet the Irvine woman was more curious than ecstatic about her daughter's find. After all, who would leave money in such a place?

Question: who would buy an open box of crackers ?

Police later heard from store managers at Whole Foods in Tustin that an elderly woman had come in a few days earlier, hysterical because she had mistakenly returned a box of crackers with her life savings inside. In a mix-up the store restocked the box rather than composting it.

#2 Who returns Crackers ?

even if the woman glued the box shut

#3 Who restocks Returned Food these days ?

I don't think I'd shop there.
Food usually gets returned becase it's spoiled.
& Immediatly Trashed if bad.

Me Thinks there is more to this then "ooops, I Returned a box of Crackers" :P
Was this in "Hooterville" ?

Gosh, just last night I saw a box of cereal in my local grocery with the lid open. I grabbed the box behind it. I gotta hurry back and check the open one. May be $10,000 in it.

Just curious, but if the lady returned the box to the store, and the store decides to restock and resell, then whoever buys the box, should be legally rightful to all contents in the box !
On the other hand, the right thing, if you know, and hear of the story about the lady's mistake of returning the box, would be to contact the store. Get a refund. buy another box. And the store returns the money to the rightful owner.
What would you do ?
I could only dream something like this would happen to me, without hearing about the old lady story though !

Well First of I think the Police were Right it was a Drop off & The Kid/guy at the counter
was in on it.

Then I would Probably Think Did the Counter guy Know me & Realize when
the Pickup went wrong Know where to come.

Then I Would look to see If the box was Marked so the Picker-upper would
know which one. If it is Then it's a drop.

At that point I would Probably return it & Say "Hey get a new System Buddy"

IF I was confident I couldn't be found

I'd keep it, Read the paper for a week or 2
watch the local news.

After that Find a new place to shop :P

Somone looses $10,000.00

And Don't Tell the news

Probably don't need it

Or Can't admit owning it.

Well I thought it was great that the people did return the Money.. Shows we still have Morals in this country.
The only thing I didn't like is that the woman who got her money back didn't even say a word to the people who returned the money.. If it was my money that they were returning you'd be darn sure I'd give em a reward!
Money out of the bank ! pfft!

that's another reason I think the "Woman" was an invention to cover the real story.

if not maybe the store felt the reward belonged to them.

That's the LAST place I'd stash my life's savings. When the creep who's been living in your attic grabs a bite to eat, there's the envelope with his bail money! Ta-daa!
