A fellow asked. Can you can detect a coin on top of
a pair of plies after you nock out the plies with your
Tesoro detectors discriminator?

He saw a video of a Colden Sabre accomplishing
this task. He wanted to know if my machines would
do it. He also wanted to know if a Whites can do it.
I dont have no Whites.

So, I tried it with my machines.

Some pliers will work better than others for this test.
So, it may be some what of a trick,,,,,, but, I learned
something.

I used some heavy pliers,

9-19-9.jpg

Monte said that the nice thing about the Compadre
is that it works kind of like the older Tesoroes in iron.
but unlike the older Tesoroes, The Compadre has a
ED-180 discriminator.

I tried both pliers with both coins shone above.

I used a Vaquero, Euro Sabre uMax, Silver Sabre uMax
and a Compadre. I had a 7 inch coil on the Euro and a
5.75 inch on the others. All 4 are concentric.

The pliers are highly conductive because of the size.
That can change a lot as the pliers are changed.

The Compadre is the only one that could detect the coin
on the pliers, with the pliers being silent. It did it with
decent depth. But, if the discrimination was turned up
to a pull tab setting, the signal was lost. They may not
have mentioned that on the video, or the Golden may
have done better.

So, the answer is, I think the Golden may do as you said.
But, remember things are not quite what they seem.

The Euro Sabre was second best, but it did not have a
good response. It was just too crackled.

The Vaquero came next. It was close to the Euro, but
thinner.

The Silver Sabre uMax could not even discriminate out
the pliers.

Hope that helps,

Tabdog

also saw it with Redheat detector I think the coin was on the back side
of the pliers away from the coil I will have to give it a try.
I guess i dont have to test my silver u

The video refered to was a Golden Sabre. The coin was on top.

If the coin is under the pliers. I doubt it.

Hey Tab!

Could any of your detectors pick up a coin AS THEY ARE POSITIONED IN THE PICTURE - in between 2 pairs of plyers?

Rock on!

The read heat did. But it is a trick and works by using MASS to generate one type of signal, and discrimination to genarate the other. A lot of detectors are capable of doing this, but usually single tone.

Yes, that is the type of tricks dealers use to try and
convence people that their machine will do this in
real life. That is just not true.

First of all, the coil is supposed to move over the
ground. Not stuff being waved in front of a coil.

I do not trust such test.

I tested with the targets on natural ground. I did
not try behind the iron trick. I did get good depth.

I might also mention that I could have cheated,
and made it appear that all of my machines would
pass this thes..

Things are not always what they seem.

I do not know what kind of machine was in the
video. But it does appear to do a very good job.

Good to see that something besides my $70
Compadre can do it.

This machine was a made to order British built Red Heat XD 17 Micro. Unfortunately, the maker, Vic Fiveash, died last year of cancer.
Very good machines, and very deep, originally designed for the River Thames foreshore.

Very interesting. I don't trust these tests as well. I sell these machines, They all detect metal. Bottom line. It's all in the technique of the the individual using it. sorry. It's true

I will keep this in mind should I discover a location where coins on pliers are a problem.

This is not a hard feat to accomplish with any detector with a fair discrimination system. Adjust the discrimination to just reject the pliers, or any other object of your choice, and when you introduce a positive like a coin to the mix, it will detect it.

You can see what the deal is.

In order for me to do this test successfully, I had to
sweep slowly as I do in trash. Most people would have
trouble slowing down.

So, the users abilities come to play here.

It is not just the machine, it is also the user.

Thanks for your input.

It is hard to put some things into words.

With all the people on this forum,

can anyone do this feat?????

I have this on no less than five popular
forums, and no one has stepped up.

I think the older Tesoroes can do this.

Surely there is something besides my $70
Compadre that can do it.

I MEAN, CAN YOU DO IT ON THE GROUND
LIKE A MD WAS INTENDED TO WORK?

Hay Guys,

I am not trying to be a show off here.

I learned something here. It is a real eye opener too.

I am suer that there are more detectorist out there
that can do this with different machines.

I have never been big on air test and such.

But this and some other things I have done like this
have taught me some valuable info.

Thanks fer lookin,

:hello:

I have tried my XP Goldmaxx Power on this test, I used a rusted Iron find of mine shaped like a spear, I placed a Silver Hammered coin on top of the wide end.

The XP picked the Hammered out, with a slight buzz from the Iron, it also picked out the Silver coin underneath the iron, but when I ran the detecter from end to end, I couldn't make out the coin from the Iron.

Sorry about the pictures.

Hmmm, maybe a good reason to grid an area both ways :icon_thumleft:

Sorry it took so long Wane.

I tried to AS THEY ARE POSITIONED IN THE PICTURE - in between 2 pairs of plyers.

The Compadre could not pick up the coin lying on the ground between two pairs of pliers.
It could not pick up the coin laying on the ground under the plires either. Only on top of
the plires that is laying on the ground.

I doubt that any of my other machines can do it either.

You´ll notice that Vic Fiveash didn´t sweep slowly when doing this video.
The Red Heats were made for the Thames River Foreshore, which is full of goodies, but HIGHLY IRON CONTAMINATED.
And here is where the Red Heat excelled better than any other detector.
