This was found last fall and then lost. How do you lose a 2 1/4 inch iron ball? in a home move, it happens. Was looking for something else today and there it was. found this at my grandfather's place. looks to be in very good shape. I don't have a clue for sure what it is. using the bathroom scales (sketchy) appears to be two pounds plus? not saying it is but who knows. We had relatives that fought in the CW, Confederate of course. quarter for comparison. sent TheCannonballGuy a pm but haven't heard back yet. thanks for looking

when you are ignorant of something, you just don't know for sure, so you ask and then hopefully you do know something. besides, who knows? Only the Shadow knows and he ain't talking!

just a tad over 57mm; perhaps a Turret bearing.

measured with dial calibers to be 2.40 inches and has a very faint seam, no holes. will try to go by and weigh at grocery store. according to YAK1366's site, it shows to be a solid grapeshot for a 18 pounder. hey, grapeshot works for me! man alive, that would go through a man and the man behind him and maybe several more men!

Looks like Canister shot. They would have a bracket that would hold 9 of these. when fired from a canon they would separate.

As we get older also we put things up for safe keeping, Then forget where we put them.

I find it very satisfying to go in the bathroom and then remember what i went in there FOR !!!!!
