Can't let the kid outdo me, back to the hood

Even though I feel life is flying by Nate and I have been able to get in three hunts lately. The first hunt we did was at an old park that we have never been to before. Nate put the silver skunk on Dan and I (He found a silver Washington). I didn't find much – best finds were a ratty marble and some early wheat pennies (1909, 1911, 1929).

The second hunt was at a school we have found plenty of silver at but mostly silver rosies with some mercs here and there. It was just Nate and I and again he put the silver skunk on me with finding a Walking Half and then a silver rosie. Now normally I am happy to see my boy find something good but when he pulled that Walker not ten feet from me I was a bit jealous. :angry2:

Even the wheat pennies I found were ratty! :P

A picture of Nate gingerly removing dirt from his just found Walker:

Now least anyone (Especially you DOUG :icon_biggrin:) think Nate's detecting prowness was the cause of his success.....after three hours our finds were almost the same – we each had found 6 Quarters, one nickel, one key, about 6 wheats, twenty some pennies and a dozen dimes. Only difference was the two silver and I had found a half dozen more clad dimes. :dontknow:

So Monday we had an hour or two before our Memorial Day picnic. We hit a new spot down in the hood (Cleveland).

It's such a cool looking school. I don't know how long it has been abandoned but it doesn't look like that long. Anyway, twenty minutes into the hunt I found silver. What made this sweet was it was a Walker. Now I was satisfied. :icon_sunny: We didn't find any other silver there but will have to hit it again.

Nice post. And guess what?..you made a nice comeback on the kid. Equalling his walker probably helped you sleep better ;D

You should see if that 1909 has any letters by it =P....if it does you might be quite happy....

I did scrub a little more after I took the picture. The back does not show any V.D.B but the front still might have an S mintmark. It has some tough dirt on it that the normal amonia is not taking off.

Way to go Bob, glad you and your son got out together and had a little
competition. Gary and I are like that all the time, only he usually beats me up. LOL

But I did O.K. this past week, finding that 3 cent Silver coin. I can't read the date, but it is
still a good find.

Way to go Bob!!! I see you went OLD SCHOOL. ::) ;D
That Walker is awesome. Those are some respectable wheats too. Congrats.
It's good to see you guys are able to spend time like that together before college begins for Nate.

Wow, nice walker. Thanks for the pictures. Isn't it nice that the snow is gone? (although, we had flurries last week).

Bub,

Nice digs! I am glad to see Dan out detecting! I thought he quit the hobby.

You guys need to hit some of those coppas you were hitting on in the fall!

Yes, no VDB. Last year I found two 1909 VDB pennies. The S mint marks are hard to come by here in the northeast.

Dude,
I know a site that has good potential for LCs. Trouble is it would cost me $45 in gas for the trip. I could buy two nicer Coppers with that money than what I could find with my detector. Yes, there are a couple closer spots that might produce but I have hit them pretty well and the probability of finding one low.

Ah, Bob, the look and feel of a Walker in your hand! You can actually feel gravity at work when you're holding one!

Great job, all of you..looks like you had fun and the big silvers were icing on the cake  The houses across the street look old too..I couldn't imagine what's sitting there in those yards!

Again nice job and hope you get a chance to find more big coins this year.
