The northern San Luis Valley was settled in the 1850's by Hispanos moving north. The didn't have a real church for a while, only a morada, but in 1879 the Catholic Church built them a consecrated one. That burned down in 1924 and this one was built in its place. Long about the 1960's I guess they lost religion or whatever but the place kinda fell out of use. They restored the church which is used for special occasions, built a Rosary Walk, and put up a monument preserving the last standing wall of the rectory built in 1879. Carnero Creek Cemetery is located near the church. Really great part of San Luis Valley history.
