Here's a site that may interest you-http://home.earthlink.net/~glenn63/deland.html.Also,I heard that the Stetson mansion has been undergoing a facelift, are they still working on it? That would be a great site to obtain permission to detect. The beach at lake Helen has been around a while and they had a treasure hunt there for the kids this past year.No detectors, they just buried coins in the sand for the kids to try and find.Deland has a lot of history, many old homes and one should be able to find some good places to detect. Down here when something gets too old, they just tear it down and rebuild, including the trees. No history to be preserved. Here's a little history of your area-http://planetflorida.net/deland-hist/Good luck in your research and your detecting.

Hello, Does anyone know of some good hunting areas around the daytona beach or deland areas??

I've had lots of success in Deland. Found my 1st seated quarter there. 1854. Stetson owns a lot of old vacant lots around the school and there are barbers and Indians just waiting to be found.

I found this ring next to the tennis courts on the west side of Woodland Blvd on Stetsons property. It's was found in an area where several pre 1900 coins were found as well.

It inscribed with a date of 1921.
