Headed out to the flea market A guy last week had a whole bunch half-dollars I was planning on buying him out. He wanted eight dollars apiece and I figured I could sell them online for about 15 -16. All of them were walking liberties. I get out there and he's not there, wonderful! So walked around for little while wasn't finding anything and then found somebody who is packing up because it was supposed to rain here at 10 o'clock. This first set everything was a dollar gram I spent $20. The one pin is a holder for a flower.

Then at another stop the guy had some coins. The quarters were $3 the dimes for $2 and then a 1870 5 cent nickel for $1. I think I get most my $back on the 5 cent.

Im confused whats a dollar gram, like a dollar per gram?

Also spot on half dollars is $7.74 right now so $8 a piece isn't awful. But if your plan was to sell them for $15-16 you probably woulda had to wait a number of years.

I had sold some last month for 15-16 free shipping. But yeah, the sterling was $1/ gram. It really doesn't matter though, all that stuff sells for way over that price. Here is the new mission: recover the gold!
Here is the clump:

Here's what I have out of it so far.

14k charm.
This is what's left. That I could see.

There is probably 4 gold necklaces in here 3 sterling ones. another one has a gold charm I can't even see right now. I paid $20 for the clump from someone I passed out a business card too and another $18 for the coins.

And have to go back at some point. She had 20 rolls of Canadian quarters all silver. But I need to check when they switched from 90 to 80% and then the 50%.

So that big pile of jewelry held 9.5 grams of 14k. Plus a nice sized diamond.

Canadian dimes, quarters and halves were 925 (sterling) until 1919. They were never 90% to my knowledge. They were 80% until half way through the 1967 run and were 50% for the back half of '67 and all of 1968. From 1935-1967 their dollar coin was 80%. The silver nickels also changed at some point from sterling to 80%, but I am unsure if that was 1919 also or not. I keep all I get as a curiosity and for my daughter as her mother is of French Canadian descent and it is my homage to that ancestry. So, I never paid attention to the %-age change.

Just to clarify, not all 1968 Canadian dimes and quarters are silver. Part way through the year they changed to 99.9% nickel. The ones that are silver are 50%, though. You can tell by the color or by using a magnet. The silver ones aren't attracted to the magnet, but the nickel ones are.

You are correct. I thought I had said that, just re-read my post and I had forgotten to do that. Good eye, Scott.

Oh, and it is about 50-50 on the '68 run also, clad to 50% silver, but a magnet will help you figure out which is which.

I did good selling a sterling enamel flower holder on ebay. Your little Danish mermaid should sell for 15 to 20 bucks I'm thinking as I sold one of those also. The one I had said it was made in Denmark. I look for Scandinavian silver jewelry as it generally sells very well. You scored!
