I trying to find out information and the age of an old Chinese Chop that I have. I believe it was owned by a relative of mine in the late 1800's - early 1900's given to him as a gift perhaps-- his son in law ran a successful Chinese importing business. The Foo dog appears hand done (drill marks in mouth) and quite heavy, marble or soapstone? The silk/brockade box seems newer though, or at least in great condition. THe closure tabs on it might be bone or ivory. The name on the chop is "Charles Sprague".
Any ideas or suggestions where I could get more information?
Thanks

Could be, that is the family I think it is from. Charles Sprague Pearce's father ran the importing business. His grandfather was Charles Sprague, Banker Poet of Boston. Hopefully I can find more informationon it.

I am no expert but that does not look like an old one to me.
