Heres mine,had my heart going when I dug it....then I realized it was broken,makes ya wonder though,how did it break?Not as purdy as yours though!

You know another odd thing,remember the Opium tin I told ya I dug had 13 Chinese coins?How many did ya dig today?I dont think I have done that in a day since!Good job,I could dig them all day :headbang:

;DGreat assumption Haylen!!!I find those frequently in '50's sites and dont seem to find many in sites that date much after 1870's.Just my experience.Often there is markings on the key hole cover that one can date them with....a crown,VR, etc

I think Kuger's right about the locks. Most I've found have been in mid 1800's and earlier sites. Another guy and I were talking one day about finding so many in civil war camps and what they could have been used for. I got a book for
Christmas and in the book is a picture of a civil war mess tent and outside the tent are wooden barrels, at least one has an iron strap across the top held by one of those big locks.

Good to know I was not sure on the time line but I did find one other that was at a 1850s last year same kind of a deal lots of chinese coins
