I was out in a farm field on my parent's property which a small civil war skirmish took place. Within an hour I found a musket ball and a button. The button dates to pre civil war: A. Benedict Extra Rich. It has a nice patina and a bit of the gold gilt left on the back. Could it have been used in the battle? Any thoughts appreciated. I believe the button is dated between 1823-1829. It's my oldest find yet but I'm a newbie :). My previous winner was a 1883 Indian head cent.

Buttons are always cool. There a small window into the past.

Yes, it 'could' have been used in the CW, but you will never know. I would put it in the pre-CW Civvy bracket & wait for a CW Button. Good Luck.
