'who should control access to public beaches...........on the wealthy enclave" pretty much sums up who's gonna win this one. If you think for one moment your city government is for you unwashed masses, think again. it's all about the dollars.

here in St. Pete, we have a government that ammended the city charter to give away our waterfront for a new baseball stadium that hasn't even been approved by the voters yet, nor has funding be found (of course "we" are going to use taxpayer dollars) The other stadium was foisted on us for 93 million dollars that magically ballooned to 157 million and they still get about 700 people average for games. in a stadium that holds 18K.

I'm half stupid but this doesn't sound like something the county should have done. ******" In split votes in October, the Martin County Commission and Jupiter Island Town Council approved the transfer of the 10-acre Bon Air Beach from the U.S. Coast Guard to the town, despite opposition from several county residents, who wanted the county to take control and build a public parking lot."

Ah yes, good old Jupiter Island. My father used to live in Jupiter. Not the island, we're not upity rich people!

Mile after mile of 15 foot high privacy hedge with signs like.."service entrance 75 feet ahead" or "these premises patrolled by guard dogs" or even the blunt "KEEP OUT".

I always wondered what they were trying so hard to keep out. Maybe it was reality. The ocean belongs to no one, the beach belongs to everyone. When you put value on something so intensely what you really are doing is assigning value to humanity.

Do the little men with the blowers strapped to their backs get invited in for iced tea after the bushes are manicured? What would happen if the pool girl accidentally drove her truck up the main driveway instead of the service drive?

Jupiter Island is neither impressive nor worth fighting over. Let the rich people have their enclave. Let them have their little fantasy land. It's all they have since they certainly have no humanity.

Jupiter Island, the richest town in the US, is mostly populated by yankee carpetbaggers. They fiercely defend their privacy. try driving a pickup truck down the island. It is mostly old money, very well connected money. Influential money. It's tough to go over their heads when the Presidents family lives there.
