OK everyone, I need ya'lls help here...
I am new to detecting in my area now and have not done it as a hobby since I was
stationed in Oahu, HI on the beaches there I managed to get out a little.

My issue right now, is I retired from the Army here in Clarksville, TN 2 yrs ago, now
I would like to pick up the hobby again, as I know it can be fun, and healthy.

I emailed my city (clarksville, TN) park & recreation offices, asking if there were any city muni-code(s) disallowing use of metal detectors in the city parks. I got an email back saying that no hobby detecting is allowed at any of them, at all.

I responded with I want to know what specific written law they are using to make that determination to disallow hobby metal detector enthusiast's in the public, city/county parks.

Is there any other Clarksville, TN folks on here that can also email these guys?

Here is there email address: [email protected]

Their website is: http://www.cityofclarksville.com/parks&rec/entireparks.asp

Here is a copy & paste of the emails:

Can you please tell me what code this is covered in?

Your City park websites show only one park that specifically mentions no metal detecting, the others do not mention it at all. I would like to see the actual code/law disallowing this hobby in our local public parks, thanks.

your mistake was telling him you were military related--my husband was stationed there in the 80s and I have never incountered such attitudes before--good luck living there--I was happy to get out of there--that whole area has problems

Thanks wannabeafinder for your two cents worth.

I agree that lately, I seem to wonder why the heck I decided to stay here...

There have been numerous criminal events around here lately, lot more than this little town
of 120,000 people or so is used to. Just shows that this "little town is growing, and the
criminal element is growing with it.

Maybe it is time for an overhaul as they say....I will seriously look into moving, but I hate to, not in my blood. I of course would not move, just because of MD issues, but it could end up being the last straw so to speak easily.

Find some areas other than the parks. There is some great civil war history in your area. This guy has issues.
I would say you would be ok in the parks but who knows. I hunt all of the city property in my area. I think this guy is wrong but he has made his mind up so not much you can do.

I am looking into areas out of the city now, the various counties. I may try a few ads in local papers & online to see if anyone with private land will allow me to detetct on their property just to have some lined up to go to. Have you read the latest info on the other thread (I am the King of parks what are you doing here) ?
