Nice find on the L2 Enfield.. The CSA's longest but it is light in weight compared to the shorter the L, L1 and L-dot. Too bad the wooden plug was missing. To find the plug also would be even more exciting. i have never found a L2 but i have had dreams that I have.

congrats of a great find!!!

When I cleaned it, it appeared to have a small piece of the plug. It was not complete. It had a ring around the top. Upon more research, I found this this bullet was made in England at the Royal Arsenal with the Anderson's Bullet Machine. This is the best drop I have found. It is only the 4th drop I have found.

Went out for about a 2 hour hunt this afternoon. Found a dropped enfield with L2 inside, a brass tag with 114 stamped on it, small piece of lead, and either a pistol ball or buck from a ball and buck. Any ideas on the tag?
It was made after 113 and before 115 :D. I don't know , ??? nice finds,and keep diggin. HB

Very nice finds there. I've been told tags like that one were used in coal mines. When a miner filled a car he hung his tag on the car and when the car was dumped the tag was read and the miner that was assigned that number got credit for filling that coal car. I have found lots of them around mine camps. I guess there was other uses but that is my guess. Congrats on the haul
