Class ring and a new friend

Ventured out this weekend for a couple hunts in some local parks here in Bloomington before the weather got cold. Found this class ring (already sent to the guy; thanks Facebook) a sterling ring not pictured, tons of clad and a 1941 wheatie.

On Saturday as I was working along the edge of a basketball court I over heard a kid near the playground say "how is he finding something every 2 feet?!". A bit later he came over and l told me about his metal detector and how it isn't as good as mine. We chatted for a while and he was mesmerized with my bucket of finds (5 gallons half full of pull tabs and other junk). He begged his mom to go get his machine and after many attempts she gave in. He runs home and was back in no time with detector and trowel in hand. It didn't take long for us to realize his detector could only find soda can sized objects an inch or two deep so I decided to find stuff for him to dig.

First target was a state quarter "Woah!? Must be from another country". I couldn't help but smile with about his enthusiasm. At the end of the day I sent him home with the quarter and the wheat penny I had found. Not a hunt for the record books but one I'll not soon forget.

Great story you've created another detectorist. I found a class ring also and posted on the school website it has school name and aninitials and 1973 date can I ask how you located the owner on facebokk I don't use it much

Thanks everyone! I wasn't able to find the guy at first but I found a Facebook page for the "Class of 19**" at the school. Luckily he had joined the group if not I suppose I could have asked someone in the group!
