Re: Coin in Bezel...gold???

It would be nice to know the story behind it. Could be someones birthyear, or someone successful kept that penny to remind them of the time when that's all the cash they had. :dontknow:

Re: Coin in Bezel...gold???

Interesting find, probably a token of an important date such as birthyear, wedding anniversary, HS graduation or something like that. Purely speculation on my part, but still very cool!

Like the others, I think you're right it sure looks gold. Also I agree with the others that it likely has some sentimental value. Great find :headbang:

Got out to an old park on Friday. managed over 50 clad coins, 1 wheatie and 1 silver rosie. But the find of the day was this coin. So tell me...why would anyone put a memorial penny in what appears to be a GOLD bezel??? I was a bit disappointed to say the least!!

someone's lucky penny :icon_pirat:

Yeah Deb, I'd say that bezel is real gold. Congrats. If I were you I'd take it out and put one of your coins into it! :headbang: :icon_thumright:

Re: Coin in Bezel...gold???

I suspect it is a lucky penny from a brides wedding. It was a tradition to put a penny is a brides purse for good luck. My Mom still has her 1945 penny (she married in 1953).

Re: Coin in Bezel...gold???

for someone 1985 was a "important" year -- stinking zinc cent in a gold bezel ? --go figger--- but I noticed that althought the cent is ate up badly the holder looks good still -- MY money is on --- its gold. :icon_thumright:

For a reason that we may never know .
