I'm thinking about going to an estate sale this weekend.
They are selling everything on the property, including the property.
Tractors,a car,a truck, a bass boat, furniture, everything in the house and garage.
They also have some coins.
Do you think its worth my while to go to it? The coin in the middle is a 1901"O" barber half dollar worth about $60.

if you have nothing else to do you may as well try.

unfortunately around here there are Too many
Uninformed Bidders.
They see old & Think Valuable.
they start Bidding Frenzies, Each thinking the other one
Knows something they don't.
so much so, that dealers complain
they can't pick up anything
because they are being outbid
on coins they can't get rid of in their
shops for half the price.

maybe you'll get lucky and won't
have much competition.

Frenzy is a good description. I went to one, watched common circulated Morgans go for $25-30, and never went to another.

Went to that estate sale today, and prices seemed high. I bid on an 1884 2 cent piece, it sold for $30. 15 lots of wheat pennys went for $25 each.
Morgan dollars were $10-20 each. I only bought 1 coin. Didn't know what it was at the time. Big & silver, paid $10. Looked it up & it's called "the most
famous coin in the world" worth about $11 in silver. I thought it was pretty much a waste of about 3 hours. I should have went detecting!

One thing to remember about "estate sales" is that they are sometimes "salted". By that I mean the companies that put on estate sales carry the same merchandise from place to place much like a regular retailer. Not all sales are done this way-- just be careful.

Not sure about That Going on Here

But some do have Shills
Bidding people up.

you can usually tell because they don't buy just bid.
and when caught off guard
and win they turn and walk and the auctioneer
acts confused pretends it was his fault,
apologizes and restarts but dosn't complain.

if this happens with a real bidder they are either forced to
take it or reamed out publically.

yes it is illegal but they do it
