Stopped at another colonial cellar this weekend that seems to have been pounded to death :-\

Spent a couple of hours at it turning up nothing at all and then i got a large hit on this gilted plate..

I didnt think nothing of it because it looked like a piece to a lamp or decorative stove or something :dontknow:

Then i was in some thick brush and pulled this almost complete buckle

I thought the buckle was my only good find until last night Timekiller gave me an Id of a sword
Guard :blob7:

Here is the Link Pete gave me
http://www.swordforum.com/forums/showthread.php?101235-1796-Spadroon

I never seen one on here and never found one so i figured i would post :coffee2:

Keep the passion high :D

Sweet find for sure!

All the best,

Lanny

Great find! Congratulations  Breezie

That's a great find JB. And it looks like a fairly early one at that. Nice going!

Thats a cool guard.....

My expertise is in Japanese swords.... but it looks like a epee or foil guard... due to the square hole for the tang.

Johnny,I'd like to encourage you to check the guard out better.Maybe use the site I gave you those guy's know there swords way more then I do which is little to nothing.I used them for the Rev.War sword I found & even though I had a good idea already on what it was because it was in my hand & I could measure it & look it over good & the fact that that type blade stood out to me it was good to hear it from people who deal with it on a regular basis.I say this because since I told you my guess I spent quite a few hours trying to find one like yours (exact) with no luck. Will say this since looking into it more they made those type guards on swords from the 1600's through the mid 1800's.On such swords as Court swords to epee to U.S. pattern 1840 swords. So I think to get a better feel for what you found you need better advise.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:
PS: I'll check back later to see. I've got to go take my mom to surgery for her knee so may be awhile getting back on here for me.

Now that's what I'm talking about J.B. !! Great finds and "after the fact" info. on finds makes it even more exciting. I was interested in that buckle from the first post. WTG, Quindy.

Hey Pete im looking around trying to find a match :read2:

I found an exact match without the cross bars..I cant seem to find any with those cross bars :dontknow:

Seems to be French and maybe French and Indian wars :icon_scratch:
The one on the right is exact minus the bars.

I wanna get back there and see if i can find more of it :laughing7:
