IMG_1635.jpg IMG_1634.jpg IMG_1633.jpg Got out for a bit yesterday and this morning. First find was the swastika and thought to myself it is going to be a bad day. I couldn't make out what was written on it but could for sure see the swastika. I went a few more steps and found a flat button. Next I scratched 2 musket balls from my favorite little hill side. I decided to go a little deeper in the woods and stumbled across the large cent. Had to leave but went back this morning for a few and found 2 Palmetto buttons. I'm still trying to find one like them on the WWW. They are flat buttons and the back mark is W.H.Horstmann & Co New York and maybe superb or superior. I figured they would have has SC on the front but they don't. Anyway thanks for looking and good luck out there!

The swastika is actually an ancient symbol, used for thousands of years before the Nazis ruined it. Heck, in the mammoth cave system in Kentucky, native american cave paintings show swastikas. Very cool finds, and congrats on that SC button!

Great buttons! Looks to me like it is Albert's SC 3, Tice's SC 216. Made by Scovills during the 1830's and 1840's. They are made by Scovill's but backmarked for Horstman who would have been the dealer selling them. Very nice early South Carolina buttons.
