Couldn't Save this Ancient Coin
Well the seasons drawing to a end fast the temperature yesterday was in the low 20s and the corns growing fast
We went back to the field were the Sovereign come from, to see if we could turn up some Roman coins and perhaps a Silver one :P
I was surprised to see so many targets still coming, Bronzes were mixed with the scrap, and I thought there might be a chance of a Hammered or Roman Silver
First good find was one I haven't had for a while...Medieval Pilgrims Ampular, these contained Holy water and were hung round the necks of the Pilgrim, in total we had another 20 bronzes from this field bringing the Total now to 60 in three visits , not bad, so some good signs for this field in the future.
I was surprised when I got home and cleaned one of the Bronzes to find it was infact a Silver but I was unable to save this Ancient Coin because it looks as if it's been in a fire, and had started to melt
We have one last chance for this time of year, a stubble field(one of our best) is due to be put to potatoes, so we should get one or two trips to it before the close of play
I have included a picture of the Roman Silver Silaqua that was found last week covered in iron from the ground, it's cleaning up pretty well
