ok what is this tiny little coin? Looks like it is brass/copper....dated 1864. VERY small, laid it ontop of an indian for size reference. Dug in a field today, very low tone, 12-06 on etrac. Is it a counterfeit one dollar gold coin?

I also think it might have been in jewelry. It might be gold, I would have it checked just to be sure.
def not gold....it was red like a nickel till I cleaned it, the light in picture gives it kind of a gold color but it is brown/red in person

Looks like someone "bit" it at some point... which was common practice in those days.

All real US gold coins have to have a denomination on them. To be real it would have to say some form of the word dollar.... dollar, doll, dol, etc.
Cool find though :)

These people are just determined to burst your bubble! For their enjoyment, can't you pretend to think it's gold? Odd find G4E.
